2010 Vote Record: Redondo Beach Chamber Holds Elected Officials Accountable

2010 Vote Record Report Shows Decreased Support For Business Related Issues

In issuing its seventh vote record since 2004, the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau announces Assembly Member Ted Lieu’s vote record on the most important state legislative issues impacting Redondo Beach in 2010.

“We will need to find other ways to effectively communicate our positions to the Assembly Member. Business owners and Redondo Beach residents deserve a better economic climate than the one we are experiencing now,” stated Marna Smeltzer, President/CEO of the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. “In order to turn around the economic slowdown in Redondo Beach, it all starts with our state representation in Sacramento. We will continue to hold our local elected officials accountable each year by releasing our annual vote record. We believe the vote record is the best way to measure the impact state leaders are making in Redondo Beach,” continued Smeltzer.

The Redondo Beach Chamber lobbied during the 2010 legislative session for our legislators to OPPOSE 12 legislative proposals and SUPPORT 9 legislative proposals. These proposals were selected using the Chamber’s Policy Platform which includes the proposals predicted ability to create – or prevent the loss of – jobs throughout the Redondo Beach business community.

To reach the “Percentage FOR pro-jobs legislation,” the Chamber tallied the number of times our legislators voted with the Chamber’s position on each proposal and divided that total by the total number of proposals in which each legislator voted. A legislative proposal is not figured into the vote record percentage if a legislator, for whatever reason, did not vote or if the proposal failed before the legislator had an opportunity to vote. The Governor’s final decision on whether or not the legislative proposal becomes law is also included.
